WhatsApp green tick verification: what it takes
Many people still search for the WhatsApp green tick. Today Meta calls it an Official Business Account (OBA), and Meta's documentation describes the badge as a blue checkmark beside the business name. Only Meta decides who gets it. This guide explains the rules Meta publishes, how to apply and what you can do while you wait.
What the WhatsApp green tick is now
An Official Business Account is a business phone number owned by a business that Meta has verified as authentic. In Meta's words, these numbers "have a blue checkmark beside their name in the contacts view". The older green tick and the current blue checkmark refer to the same status.
The badge is attached to a phone number on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Meta does not grant it to WhatsApp Business app numbers, to test accounts or to business employees.
Meta's eligibility rules for the green tick
Meta lists these conditions. All of them must be met.
- The business complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
- The business has been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days.
- The business portfolio that owns the number has completed Meta Business Verification.
- Two-step verification is turned on for the business phone number.
- The number's display name has been approved.
How to request an Official Business Account

Prepare the number
Turn on two-step verification and make sure the display name follows Meta's display name guidelines and is approved.
Submit the request
In WhatsApp Manager, open the phone number, then Profile, then Official business account, and click Submit Request. It can also be requested through Meta's API.
Wait for Meta's decision
Meta reviews the request and notifies you. If it is denied, you must wait 30 days before you apply again.

Why the badge matters, and why it is not essential
Meta notes that a number without OBA status does not appear in WhatsApp search results unless the user has saved it. With the badge, customers find you more easily and see that Meta has checked your business.
You can run a good WhatsApp service without it. Every number has a business profile with a picture, description, email and website that you can edit at any time. A denial does not limit those details.
