The official WhatsApp Business API and team inbox for businesses in Nigeria.

Answer customers in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt from one WhatsApp number your whole team shares, with Instagram DMs in the same inbox. Plans are shown in naira, and there is no BelloSend fee per message.

In Nigeria, customers DM before they buy

For many Nigerian customers, the first contact with a business is a WhatsApp message or an Instagram DM, not a phone call or an email. A shopper sees a dress on a Lekki boutique's Instagram page, taps the WhatsApp link in the bio and asks "How much?" and "Do you deliver to Abuja?". Vendors share catalogues on WhatsApp Status, customers send screenshots, voice notes and proof of transfer in the same chat, and the business confirms the order, books a dispatch rider or sends the waybill details.

Customers write the way they talk. Most chats mix English and Nigerian Pidgin, and many customers in Kano, Ibadan, Onitsha or Enugu switch to Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo when they want to be precise or friendly. A team that can see the whole history, save replies in each language and hand a chat to the colleague who speaks the customer's language gives faster and warmer answers.

WhatsApp is now the main sales and support line for fashion and beauty vendors, electronics sellers in Computer Village, food and grocery delivery, real estate agents and shortlet operators, private schools, clinics and pharmacies, logistics companies, event planners and microfinance and fintech teams. Payment by bank transfer or on delivery is common, so much of the day goes to confirming orders, checking alerts and keeping customers updated until the parcel arrives.

The trouble starts when that volume runs through one phone. Chats get buried, two staff answer the same customer, nobody knows who promised a delivery date, and when a staff member leaves, the history may leave too. Unofficial bulk-messaging tools and modified WhatsApp apps put the number at risk of being banned. The official WhatsApp Business API, used through a shared inbox, lets several people work on one verified number, with approved templates for updates and campaigns.

How Nigerian businesses use BelloSend every day

  • Instagram vendors who close on WhatsApp

A Lagos fashion or skincare brand answers Instagram DMs, comments and WhatsApp chats in one inbox. Agents use quick replies with prices, size guides and photos, tag each customer by product, and move a buyer from an Instagram comment to a private DM or to WhatsApp without losing the thread.

  • Pay-on-delivery confirmation

Before a rider leaves the hub, an e-commerce store sends an approved utility template with Confirm and Cancel buttons. The customer confirms the order, address and amount in one tap, cancellations stop before the trip is wasted, and address changes land in the inbox as a normal conversation an agent can pick up.

  • Dispatch and interstate waybill updates

Logistics companies and online sellers send shipping updates when a parcel is picked up, put on a bus to Abuja or Port Harcourt, or out for delivery. Through the API and webhooks on the Max plan, your store or delivery system can trigger each update, and replies come back to the shared inbox.

  • Real estate and shortlet enquiries

Agents in Lekki, Ikoyi and Abuja receive many enquiries about the same listings. A chatbot flow asks for budget, location and move-in date, shares photos and videos, and assigns the qualified lead to the right agent. Inspection reminders go out as approved templates the day before.

  • School fees and term reminders

Private schools send resumption dates, PTA meetings and fee reminders to parents who opted in, as WhatsApp templates instead of SMS. Parents reply with questions or proof of payment in the same chat, and the bursar's team sees each conversation in one shared inbox with notes.

  • Clinic and salon appointments

A clinic in Ikeja or a salon in Abuja sends appointment reminders with buttons to confirm or reschedule. The chatbot answers common questions about opening hours and prices, and hands over to a receptionist with the full history when a patient or client needs a person.

  • Festive and Black Friday campaigns

For Christmas, Easter, Sallah or Black Friday, retailers send approved marketing templates to customers who opted in, segmented by tags such as city or past purchase. Delivery, read and failure status show what worked, and replies to the campaign arrive in the inbox for your team to close.

  • After-sales and payment follow-up

Electronics and appliance sellers handle warranty questions, repair bookings and instalment reminders on the same number. Agents attach invoices or receipts, leave internal notes, and transfer the chat to the technical team, while the audit history and analytics show who handled each request and how quickly.

Everything your team needs to work on WhatsApp and Instagram.

BelloSend joins daily customer service, structured outreach and automation without forcing your team to stitch together separate tools.

  • Shared team inbox

Handle WhatsApp and Instagram conversations together, assign contacts, use quick responses and keep customer context visible.

  • Instagram comments and mentions

See comments and mentions beside your direct messages and answer each one publicly under the post or privately in a DM.

  • Campaigns and templates

Manage Meta templates for compliant WhatsApp campaigns to opted-in contacts, and save Instagram templates — cards, buttons and post shares — for replies your team sends every day.

  • Chatbot and AI

Build chatbot workflows, keywords, AI-assisted contexts and human hand-off paths that answer on WhatsApp and Instagram, each channel with its own instructions.

  • Contacts and teams

Organize contacts with tags, create teams and control access with roles and granular permissions.

  • Flows and calling

Create interactive WhatsApp Flows and, when enabled by Meta, manage business calling, IVR and transfers.

  • Live analytics

Track messages, contacts, sessions, campaigns, agent performance and Meta account insights across both channels.

One conversation history. The right teammate. No lost context.

Give support and sales teams a shared place to answer WhatsApp and Instagram, while assignments, availability and permissions keep work organized.

  • WhatsApp and Instagram direct messages in one queue
  • Instagram comments and mentions answered in public under the post or privately in a DM
  • Contact and message history in one view
  • Teams, assignments and agent transfers
  • Quick responses and custom actions

Move from approved template to measurable campaign.

Sync WhatsApp templates, segment opted-in contacts and monitor delivery without hiding the operational details your team needs. WhatsApp campaigns reach your opted-in contacts; Instagram campaigns reach the people who messaged you in the last 24 hours, because Instagram never lets a business start the conversation.

  • Meta template management and synchronization
  • CSV contact imports, tags and targeting
  • Delivery, read and failure status visibility
  • Saved Instagram templates — cards, buttons and post shares — for replies inside an open conversation

Automate repeatable work without trapping customers.

Use keywords, visual flows, AI contexts and external webhooks on both channels, then transfer the conversation to a person when it matters.

  • Visual chatbot and WhatsApp Flow builders
  • AI contexts and configurable providers, with separate instructions per channel
  • Ice breakers and a persistent menu on your Instagram profile
  • Human hand-off, queues and SLA workflows

We had four people answering from one phone and it was a mess. Now I can see who is on what, and the notes stay with the chat when someone hands it over.

Honestly I expected to fight with the setup. First campaign went out in about twenty minutes and I could finally see who actually read it.

Adding an agent takes two minutes and I choose exactly what they can open. That was my main worry before we moved everything over.

WhatsApp marketing and data protection rules in Nigeria

Customer phone numbers and chats are personal data under Nigerian law, and Meta adds its own rules on top. These are the main points a business should know before it sends WhatsApp updates or campaigns to Nigerian customers.

  • The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and the NDPC

The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act) governs how businesses collect and use personal data, including customer names, phone numbers and chat histories. It is enforced by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Process data only for clear purposes, tell customers how you use it in a privacy notice, keep it secure and check whether your business must register with the NDPC as a data controller of major importance.

    ndpc.gov.ng

  • Consent for direct marketing

The NDPC's General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) 2025 says consent is required for any direct marketing activity. Collect a clear opt-in before you send promotional WhatsApp messages, give a real choice to accept or decline, and keep a record of when and how each customer agreed.

    ndpc.gov.ng

  • The right to object and to opt out

Under the NDP Act a customer can object to the use of their data for direct marketing, and the business must then stop using it for that purpose. Give an easy way to opt out, such as replying STOP, honour it quickly, and remove or tag those contacts so they are left out of future campaigns.

    ndpc.gov.ng

  • Data transfers outside Nigeria

The NDP Act limits transfers of personal data outside Nigeria to cases with adequate protection or another lawful basis, and the GAID lists consent among the options where there is no adequacy decision. Messages sent through WhatsApp and cloud software are usually processed abroad, so mention this in your privacy notice and record the basis you rely on.

    ndpc.gov.ng

  • NCC Do Not Disturb (2442) for SMS and calls

The Nigerian Communications Commission runs the Do Not Disturb service on short code 2442, which lets subscribers block unsolicited promotional SMS and calls on their mobile lines. It applies to telecom messaging rather than WhatsApp, but it shows what Nigerian customers expect: promotions only from businesses they agreed to hear from.

    consumer.ncc.gov.ng

  • Digital lenders and consumer protection

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) enforces the Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025, aimed at unfair and exploitative practices in digital lending. Lenders and fintechs that use WhatsApp for repayment reminders should check these rules and keep messages to the borrower, factual and respectful.

    fccpc.gov.ng

  • Meta's rules: opt-in, 24-hour window and templates

Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy requires opt-in before you message someone. You can reply freely within 24 hours of the customer's last message; outside that window you must use a template that Meta has approved. Blocks and reports lower your quality rating and can limit the number.

Questions about BelloSend and the WhatsApp Business API

Is the WhatsApp Business API available for businesses in Nigeria?

Yes. Nigerian businesses can use Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) with a Nigerian +234 number or another number they own. BelloSend connects to it officially, as BelloCloud LLC is verified by Meta as a Tech Provider. You connect your number with Meta's Embedded Signup or a manual Cloud API setup, then invite your team, sync your templates and import your contacts from a CSV file.

What is the difference between the WhatsApp Business app and the API for a Nigerian vendor?

The WhatsApp Business app works well when one person answers from one phone. Once several staff handle orders, enquiries and complaints, the API connected to BelloSend lets everyone answer from the same number in a shared inbox, with assignments, internal notes, quick replies, a chatbot and approved templates for order updates and campaigns. It also avoids the ban risk of unofficial bulk-messaging tools.

Can I keep my number and still use the WhatsApp Business app on my phone?

Often, yes. If Meta makes your number eligible for Coexistence during setup, you keep the WhatsApp Business app on your phone while the same number works in BelloSend, and up to six months of one-to-one chat history can sync. With a direct Cloud API setup, the number works through BelloSend only. Meta decides eligibility; group chats do not sync.

How much does Meta charge for WhatsApp messages to Nigerian numbers?

Nigeria is a named market on Meta's rate card effective 1 October 2026. Meta charges per delivered template, in US dollars: about USD 0.0516 for a marketing message and USD 0.0067 for utility and authentication. Service replies are charged at the utility rate after 1,000 free per number per month. Rates change, so estimate your costs with the free WhatsApp pricing calculator on this site.

Can I see BelloSend prices in naira, and how do I pay?

Yes. On this page, Growth, Pro and Max are shown in naira, converted at the day's exchange rate for reference, and you can switch to US dollars or euros. There is no BelloSend fee per message or per contact. For invoicing and available payment options, contact the team on WhatsApp at +1 505 528 3844 or at contact@bellosend.net before you subscribe.

Do I need to follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act to send WhatsApp campaigns?

Yes. The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and the NDPC's GAID apply to customer phone numbers and chats, and the GAID requires consent for direct marketing. Send campaigns only to people who opted in, give them a way to stop and honour it. In BelloSend you can tag opted-in contacts and target campaigns by tag, but your business remains responsible for consent.

Can my customers chat in Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo?

Customers can write to you in any language, and your agents see every message in the shared inbox. You can save quick replies in each language your team uses, tag contacts by language and assign chats to the colleague who speaks it. The BelloSend app itself is in English, French, Arabic and Spanish, and our support answers in English, French or Arabic.

Can BelloSend get my Nigerian business the green tick?

No one can promise it. The green tick, now shown as a blue checkmark for an Official Business Account, is granted only by Meta. Meta requires, among other things, a completed Meta Business Verification, at least 30 days on the WhatsApp Business Platform, two-step verification and an approved display name. Once your number is connected through BelloSend, you can request it from Meta.

Which Nigerian businesses use a WhatsApp team inbox?

Any business where several people answer the same customers: online fashion and beauty vendors, electronics shops, food and grocery delivery, logistics companies, real estate agents and shortlet operators, private schools, clinics, salons, travel agencies and fintech teams. Each uses the same features: a shared inbox for WhatsApp and Instagram, contacts and tags, templates, and chatbots that hand over to a person.

Does BelloSend work on Android phones for my sales team?

Yes. The free BelloSend Android app (Android 7.0 or newer) gives each agent the same shared inbox as the web app, with push notifications when a customer writes and WhatsApp calls on Pro and Max when Meta enables calling. Agents keep their own login and permissions, so nobody needs to share one phone or one SIM. iOS is coming soon.

Bring your WhatsApp and Instagram operations into one clear workspace.

Give your team the conversations, automation and controls they need without adding another disconnected process.
