WhatsApp QR code generator

A WhatsApp QR code lets customers start a chat by pointing their phone camera at a sticker, menu or flyer. Type your number and an optional message above, and the WhatsApp QR code generator draws the code in your browser. Download it as a PNG and print it. It is free and needs no account.

How to make a WhatsApp QR code

  1. Type your WhatsApp number

Use the full number with the country code. Spaces, dashes and the + sign are fine.

  2. Add an optional message

The text appears in the customer's message box after the scan, ready to send, for example "I would like to book a table".

  3. Download the PNG

Click Download PNG. The image is 720 pixels wide with a white margin, sharp enough for stickers, table cards and menus.

  4. Scan before you print

Test the code with two or three phones to make sure it opens a chat with the right number.

How a WhatsApp QR code works

The QR code contains a wa.me click to chat link: https://wa.me/ followed by your number in international format and, if you add one, ?text= with your message. When someone scans it with the camera or inside WhatsApp, their phone opens a chat with your number.

Because the code holds the link itself, it never expires and does not depend on any service staying online. If you change your number, make a new code.

Where to put your WhatsApp QR code

  • Counter and window

A sticker at the till or on the door for questions, orders and after-sales service.

  • Menus and tables

Restaurants and cafes let guests order, book or ask for the bill by chat.

  • Packaging and receipts

Customers reach support after delivery without searching for a number.

  • Flyers, posters and stands

Visitors at fairs and events start a conversation in seconds.

Tips for a QR code people scan

  • Print it at least 2 to 3 cm wide, larger for posters seen from a distance.
  • Keep dark modules on a light background. Do not invert the colours.
  • Add a short call to action next to it, such as "Scan to chat on WhatsApp".
  • Use a different pre-filled message per location so you can tell where chats come from.
  • Leave the white margin around the code when you place it in a design.

Meta's own QR codes for API numbers

If your number is on the WhatsApp Business Platform, Meta also lets you create QR codes and short links in WhatsApp Manager or through its API. Those use wa.me/message/ addresses, carry a pre-filled message of up to 140 characters, are limited to 2,000 per phone number and come without analytics. The generator below works for any number, including the WhatsApp Business app.

Handle the chats your QR code brings

When scans turn into many conversations, BelloSend gives your team one shared inbox for WhatsApp and Instagram, with assignment and quick replies. From the Pro plan, a chatbot can answer common questions first.

Frequently asked questions

Is this WhatsApp QR code generator free?

Yes. The code is drawn in your browser, with no account and no limit on downloads.

Does the QR code expire?

No. It contains your wa.me link directly, so it works as long as the number is on WhatsApp.

Can I change the message after printing?

No. The message is part of the code. Make and print a new code to change it.

What file format do I get?

A PNG image 720 pixels wide. For very large prints, generate it again and place it at the size you need without stretching it unevenly.

Can customers scan it from inside WhatsApp?

Yes. They can use the phone camera or the QR scanner in WhatsApp; both open the chat.

Can I add my logo to the QR code?

The generator makes a plain black-on-white code, which scans most reliably. If a designer adds a logo, keep it small and in the centre, keep the white margin, and test the printed result on several phones before ordering a large print run.
